Thoroughbred Horses - HealthThoroughbred horses are wonderful athletes. However, the horse will not perform in a brilliant manner if it has some health problems. Hoof problems are one of the common concerns of many Thoroughbred breeders and owners. The Thoroughbred can have a number of disorders such as the crack of the hoof, abscess, laminitis, thrush, fractures, and others. A diseased horse shows the signs of poor health. As a rule, it will not step on the leg and appear overall anxious when something is wrong. Many Thoroughbreds suffer from EIPH (Exercise Induced Pulmonary Haemorrhage). As the name suggests, the disease results from over exercise. Bleeding at the nostrils of the Thoroughbred horse is a sign of the condition. It is estimated that bleeding occurs in the lungs of the animal. About 40-75% of Thoroughbreds suffer from EIPH. As the horse ages, bleeding appears to be more severe. There are a number of suppositions as to the origin of this health condition. However, the exact cause of EIPH is unknown. The efforts of scientists should be aimed at uncovering the cause. Only after that will the breeders of Thoroughbreds be informed on the possible means of EIPH management. Like all breeds of horses, Thoroughbreds can suffer from respiratory disorders. Bacteria (Streptococcus equi, Rhodococcus equi, and others) cause some respiratory diseases. They are the subjects of scientific research. Profound studies helps to better understand the mechanism of physiological processes in Thoroughbreds and develop preventive measures for Thoroughbred horses.
